We are delighted to welcome Bulgarian-German conductor Svetoslav Borisov to our roster. From the 2025/26 season, he holds the position of Principal Conductor and Deputy Music Director at the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau, following a successful tenure in the same role at Theater Magdeburg. He also serves as Artistic Director of the Austrian chamber orchestra CON FUOCO in Graz.
Borisov’s career has taken him to leading opera houses, festivals, and orchestras across Europe and beyond. Formerly Chief Conductor of the Opera in Varna — where he was appointed Permanent Guest Conductor in 2023/24 — he has also worked with institutions such as the National Opera Sofia, Musiktheater im Revier Gelsenkirchen, the Opera Theaters in Cracow and Istanbul, and appeared at the Grafenegg Festival, Wiener Musikverein, the Big Hall of Berliner Philharmonie, Musikverein Graz, Varna Summer Festival, Bulgaria Concert Hall, Nikolaisaal Potsdam, Konzerthaus Dortmund, Musikforum Ruhr, just to name a few.
Svetoslav Borisov was nominated for the Opernwelt Award in 2023 for his interpretation of Ariadne auf Naxos.
Recent and upcoming engagements include Così fan tutte, La Bohème, and Swan Lake in Dessau, as well as appearances at the Kurt Weill Fest Dessau, the Grafenegg Festival, and with orchestras such as the Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich, Graz Philharmonic, Orquestra Metropolitana in Lisbon, Magdeburg Philharmonic , Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic , Bochum Symphony Orchestra, .
