We are delighted to welcome Joe Chalmers to our management roster. Originally from the United Kingdom, and now based in Amsterdam, the bass-baritone begins the 2026–27 season as Warrant Officer Mandel in P. Glass’s Waiting for the Barbarians at the Nederlandse Reisopera, followed by the role of Quercus in J. Dove’s Uprising at the Opera Zuid and the Dutch National Opera.

Joe is an alumnus of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and a former member of the Dutch National Opera Studio. During his time at the Studio, he appeared as the First SS Man (Die Passagierin), Il Conte di Ceprano (Rigoletto), Carceriere (Tosca), and Der Einarmige (Die Frau ohne Schatten). He will also take part in the Aix-en-Provence voice residency during the 2026 Festival.

Previously, Joe Chalmers made his debut at the London Coliseum for the English National Opera as Captain Corcoran (HMS Pinafore). His engagements also included Figaro (Le Nozze die Figaro) at Garsington Opera, Nettuno (La liberazione di Ruggiero dall’isola d’Alcina) at Longborough Festival Opera, Martino (L’occasione fa il Ladro) at British Youth Opera.

We are proud to begin working with Joe Chalmers and look forward to supporting his continued artistic development in the years ahead.
