Simona Mihai

"Mihai’s Countess achieved real pathos but without any false sense of serenity. Raw suffering drove her laments, and “Dove sono” became no wistful elegy but a frenzy of regret." - The Arts Desk

Reviews & Press

The Grange Festival - Le nozze di Figaro - Countess

Simona Mihai with tumbling dark hair and childlike face, would be a plausible young maid, though she grew into a Countess and by the last act had found the dignity and composure to forgive her errant husband.

Opera Magazine

Royal Opera House - Puccini - La boheme - Mimi

Mihai successfully combined a sense of fragility with an underlying strength of character, and a powerful ability to project musically

[Mihai] gives a confident, sympathetic characterization of the wan tubercular seamstress doomed from her first entrance. The best of her singing came in the third act: ‘Donde lieta usci’ was gently phrased and touchingly felt.

Bayerische Staatsoper - Offenbach - Les Contes d'Hoffmann - Giulietta

Looking suitably brassy, the Venetian courtesan Giulietta played by Simona Mihai was robed in a dark red dress an ideal match for her long, flaming red hair. Singing with vitality and feistiness the Romanian-born British Mihai demonstrated her admirable high register.
