A Grammy Nominee, Johannes is widely known for a number of award-winning recordings, appearances on the world’s most prestigious stages and his work with outstanding conductors.
Highlights of Johannes’ current season include Detlev Glanert’s orchestral version of the magnificent Vier ernste Gesänge by Brahms in Tampere, his return to the Oslo Opera with Hänsel und Gretel and appearances with the highly esteemed MDR Musiksommer festival and Dresden Musikfestspiele with Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis. Johannes Weisser had great success as Mr. Flint in the groundbreaking 2019 production of Billy Budd at the Oslo Opera, and as Re di Scozia in the Drottningholm Theatre production of Händel’s Ariodante.
Recent engagements brought Johannes Weisser to the Salzburg Festival, Staatsoper Berlin, Teatro Real Madrid, Théâtre de La Monnaie in Brussels, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Canadian Opera Company, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Berlin Philharmonie and Philharmonie de Paris, Bozar Brussels and Antwerp’s deSingel, Komische Oper Berlin, Norwegian National Opera, Royal Danish Opera, the Enescu Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival.
Weisser's extensive discography includes the title role of Don Giovanni under the bator on René Jacobs for harmonia mundi, Don Pizarro in Beethoven’s original Leonore and Haydn’s Die Schöpfung (René Jacobs/harmonia mundi), Bach’s St Matthew Passion and St John Passion (both René Jacobs/harmonia mundi), the role of Achilla in Giulio Cesare (Alan Curtis/naive), and Ståle Kleiberg’s Mass for a Modern Man with Trondheim Sinfonietta.
