Janis Liepins will become the Kapellmeister of the Nationaltheater Mannheim beginning with their 2019/2020 season. In his first season as Kapellmeister, he will conduct several repertoire pieces, two new productions, ballet premiere and lead an orchestra concert.
Currently Janis Liepins holds a position as a conductor of the Latvian National Opera and Ballet. This season’s highlights included a premiere of Montemeci's L'Incantesimo in a double bill with Leoncavallo’s Pagliacci broadcasted on Arte TV as part of the 2019/2020 Opera Season, several repertoire pieces and a Gala concert celebrating the centennial anniversaries of Latvian independence.
This season also saw Liepins making his Wagnerian debut with Der fliegende Holländer for LNO.
Janis Liepins earned his Bachelor's degree in choral and orchestral conducting from the Latvian Academy of Music and completed his conductor training at the Universität der Künste, Berlin with Professor Lutz Köhler. He also received valuable instruction attending masterclasses with Prof. Colin Metters.
