Widely seen as one of the UK’s most exciting young conductors, Zeffman’s appointment follows an acclaimed visit with LCO to the Mariinsky Theatre earlier this year, where the orchestra gave the Russian premiere of George Benjamin’s Lessons in Love and Violence as part of the Stars of the White Nights Festival. Having conducted LCO regularly in recent years, his first engagement as Associate Conductor will be in January 2020 and he will play active part in the team that oversees the orchestra’s artistic and strategic development.

Christopher Warren-Green, LCO Music Director & Principal Conductor says:

“I have always been very interested in nurturing the next generation of musical talent, whether that’s through LCO’s outreach project, Music Junction, or working with young artists, be they conductors, instrumentalists or singers. I have been impressed with Oliver’s conducting for several years and have kept a keen eye on his progress. He undoubtedly has a very bright future ahead of him and I’m delighted that we’re able to officially welcome him into the LCO family.”

Zeffman says:

“I am thrilled to be joining the LCO family. When I first conducted the orchestra, I could not have met with a warmer and more responsive group of players. Touring with the orchestra earlier this summer to the Mariinsky to give the Russian premiere of Lessons in Love and Violence was a joy - and the fact that we could put together the piece in such a short period is a testament to the incredible quality of the LCO. We’re already planning many exciting projects together and I can’t wait to see what the future brings.”
