Raymond Ayers, baritone
Raymond Ayers holds degrees from Westminster Choir College (BM) and Manhattan School of Music (MM). He is recorded on the Albany Records and Afka labels. He is an accomplished oboist. The Connecticut Opera Guild Competition, Eisenberg-Fried Concerto Competition, Metropolitan Opera National Council, Palm Beach Opera Competition, Shreveport Singer of the Year Competition, Sun Valley Voice Competition, Schubert Club Competition, and the Violetta DuPont Vocal Competition have all honored Raymond Ayers for outstanding achievement and artistic excellence.
Raymond Ayers is a frequent guest with the Minnesota Orchestra having collaborated with esteemed music director Osmo Vänskä and acclaimed conductor Andrew Litton. Most recently he was seen in their Bernstein Festival singing the Mass (Celebrant). He shared the stage with renowned artists Deborah Voigt, Carl Tanner and Greer Grimsley singing Angelotti in Tosca, Marcello La Bohème (Sommerfest in the Orchestra's productions), Zuniga and Escamillo cover in Carmen, and twice as the Father in Hänsel and Gretel.
He made his debut at New York City Opera performing Schaunard in La Bohème, Dancaire in Carmen and Le Minstre Premier in Cendrillon as well as at New Orleans Opera singing Scapin in L'Ile de Merlin.
He returned to Chautauqua Opera for its celebratory 40th season in Cosi fan tutte (Guglielmo) to critical acclaim, and in La Bohème (Schaunard). Raymond Ayers also successfully sang his first Carmina Burana with the Harvard Chorale in Boston.
Raymond Ayers started his European career performing Silvio in Pagliacci, Dandini in La Cenerentola and Chucho in the German premier of Salsi Puedes with Theater Hagen in Germany.
In the meanwhile he returned to the States with performances of Sondheim's A Little Night Music (Carl Magnus) with the San Diego Lyric Opera and sang Carmina Burana at Festival de Radio France Montpellier.
Upcoming operatic roles include Ottokar in Freischütz, Der König in Drei Rätsel, Germont / Douphol in La Traviata, Jupiter in Orpheus in der Unterwelt. Wolf in Into the Woods, Harry Esther in Street Scene, Silvio in I Pagliacci (all at Theater Hagen), Carl-Magnus Malcolm in A Little Night Music (San Diego Lyric Opera).
Raymond Ayers maintains an active concert schedule having performed with the Central City Orchestra, Delaware Jazz Festival Orchestra, Duluth Festival Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, Princeton Pro Musica, Princeton Symphony Orchestra and the Minnesota Orchestra.
