Judith Gauthier, soprano

Before starting her vocal studies with Maestro M.Command and G.Bacquier, Judith Gauthier, soprano, trained at Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, piano, accompaniment and vocal conducting.

 

Judith Gauthier is the recipient of several prizes including the Adami Prize at the International Competition of Clermont-Ferrand (2005), the First Prize and the SACEM Prize for the most outstanding interpretation of contemporary works at the Concours International de la Mélodie Française de Toulouse (2003).

 

Judith Gauthier made her debut in Campra's Idoménée and was invited to participate in Bastien und Bastienne  (Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris).

She performed Céphise in Lully's Alceste (Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Paris), Arcas in Martin y Soler's Ifigenia in Aulide (Madrid) , Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte (Warsaw), Frasquita in Carmen (M. Minkowski, Bremen Music Festival), Lisettta in La Gazzetta (Rossini in Wildbad Belcanto Opera Festival).

 

Judith Gauthier has been a soloist in Bach's Mass in B minor (working with both M. Minkowski and H. Niquet), in Mozart's Great Mass in C and Brahm's Ein Deutsches Requiem (B.Tétu , Lyon), in works by Denoyé, Corrette and Charpentier (M.Gester, conductor, Le Parlement de Musique , recorded by Harmonia Mundi), and Händel's  La Resurrezione (Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, J.W De Vriend).

 

A very experienced twentieth century music interpreter, Judith Gauthier perfomed in Daniel-Lesur's Andrea del Sarto, Ph.Fénelon's Leçons de ténèbres, Arvo Pärt's Te Deum, P.Méfano's Estampes japonaises, Stravinsky's Two Poems and Three Japanese Lyrics of Balmont (with the 2E2M Ensemble), P. Eötvös 's As I crossed a bridge of dreams (with the Ensemble Intercontemporain), among others.

 

Judith Gauthier has performed Oberto in Händel's Alcina (Opera National de Paris-Garnier, Wiener Konzerthaus, and Aix-en -Provence), Fiorilla in Il Turco in Italia (Basel-Riehen), Hélène in Chabrier's L'éducation manquée (Caen), and Drolla in Wagner's Die Feen (both at Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris).

A frequent concert singer, Judith Gauthier gave a recital at Festival de Musique Baroque de Lyon and was a soloist in Monteverdi's Vespro de la Beata Vergine, in Mozart's Mass in C (Mozarteum, Salzburg), in a Vivaldi-Händel-Porpora program (Ensemble Matheus, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, conductor), in J.S. Bach's Johannes Passion (Hamburg, Paris, Grenoble, Cuenca, and Krakow, Les Musiciens du Louvre, M. Minkowski, conductor), and in Schubert's Cantate for Choir and Soprano solo Mirjiams Siegesgesang (Accentus, Paris, Cité de la Musique, Opéra de Rouen).

More recently she has appeared as Astrée in G.Pesson's Pastorale (Châtelet, Paris), Amour and Clarine in Rameau's Platée (Bastille, Paris), and Oberto in Händel's Alcina (Santiago de Chile).

Upcoming engagements include Bellezza in Händel's Il trionfo del tempo (Stuttgart), the title part in Massenet' Cendrillon (Paris, Opéra Comique, Wiener Konzerthaus), and Inès in Donizetti's La Favorite (Paris, Théâtre des Champs Elysées), among others.
