Biography highlights

Italian stage director José Darío Innella is a former Jette Parker Young Artist, at the Royal Opera House, London. There he was Assistant Stage Director for Don Carlo directed by Nicholas Hytner; Der Rosenkavalier directed by John Schlesinger, revival director Andrew Sinclair; The Rake’s Progress directed by Robert Lapage, revival director Sybille Wilson; Powder Her Face directed by Carlos Wagner; Tamerlano directed by Graham Vick; Le Nozze di Figaro directed by David McVicar.


He made his stage director debut with Cosí fan Tutte, also designing the costumes. Since then, he has directed multiple operas, operette and zarzuelas, including La Traviata, Rigoletto, Aída, L’Italiana in Algeri, Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Cosí Fan Tutte, L’elisir d’amore, Don Pasquale, La Voix Humaine, Carmen, I Pagliacci, Cavalleria Rusticana, La Bohème, Madama Butterfly, Die Lustige Witwe, Die Fledermaus, Il Maestro di Musica, Il Matrimonio Segreto, El Retablo de Maese Pedro, Marina, La Leyenda del Beso, Luisa Fernanda, El Barberillo de Lavapiés, El dúo de La Africana, La Rosa del Azafrán, El Asombro de Damasco and Doña Francisquita in Buenos Aires and on tour, including the Teatro Colón Chamber Opera, Teatro Colón’s Experimental Center and Teatro Avenida. Internationally, he directed at the Teatro Romea, Murcia, Teatro Melico Salazar in San José de Costa Rica, Medellín Metropolitan Theatre or Las Palmas Opera, and in 2017 he directed a new production of La Traviata for Opera de Costa Rica.
