Royal Opera House Covent Garden - JPYA Summer Performance, 2016

Emily Edmonds was a vivacious Varvara and as Prince Orlofsky she got the party going with a swing. Edmonds won acclaim in her native Australia before joining the JPYA Programme in 2015 and one can see why: her mezzo is full and sensuous, and she has sparkling stage presence. Her performances next season, which include Kate Pinkerton (Madame Butterfly) and Tebaldo (Don Carlo) will be keenly anticipated.

- OPERA TODAY

Nobody had anything less than a good voice but – in my opinion – only three singers genuinely commanded the stage and particularly drew my eyes to them... Australia’s Emily Edmonds..."

- SEEN AND HEARD

It was again Emily Edmonds’ Musetta [Leoncavallo's La Boheme] who caught the eye and ear as tart-with-a-heart prowling the stage

- SEEN AND HEARD

Emily Edmonds was a mischievous Varvara and later an equally sparky Musetta. Her soprano is bright and attractive

Sydney Chamber Opera - Owen Wingrave - Kate

Edmonds is quite a force of nature. The role of Kate was written for Dame Janet Baker and it’s no backhanded compliment to say that she reminded me of the great mezzo on more than one occasion. The voice is ravishing, and powerful too, and she inhabits the role with a confidence that belies the musical complexity.

- ABC LIMELIGHT MAGAZINE

...hers is an instrument of, apparently, boundless potency, which goes beyond competence and control, to consummately enrapture.

- CRIKEY ARTS REVIEW

Against him is arrayed a trio of fearsome women, led by Emily Edmonds as Kate ... Her sound is coloured and thrilling, just as the character is herself chilling.

- SYDNEY MORNING HERALD

Owen's fiancee Kate is an unlikable woman, yet Emily Edmonds finds a way to make her understandable and does so with a beautifully produced mezzo that is penetrating without losing its smooth texture.

- THE AUSTRALIAN

Sydney Chamber Opera - Into the Little Hill

Edmonds, in full-toned, creamy voice, is able to capture perfectly the contrasts between the duplicitous politician and his wife while singing the pants off of Crimp’s brilliant language with real engagement.

- ABC LIMELIGHT MAGAZINE

Sydney Symphony Orchestra - Elektra - Dritte Magd

Amongst a fine set of maids... especially Emily Edmonds stood out for vocal power and use of the text.

- ABC LIMELIGHT MAGAZINE

Pinchgut Opera - Bajazet - Asteria

As his daughter Asteria, Australian mezzo Emily Edmonds displays a gorgeous, even voice, making every word count, a standout for attention to detail in recitative.

- ABC LIMELIGHT MAGAZINE

Bajazet's daughter Asteria, calculating in her acceptance of Tamerlano's desire both to marry her and rile her father at the same time, was given fervent know-how by soprano Emily Edmonds with a glimmering high soprano, rich in technique and expression.

- Paul Selar, BachtrackRead the article

As Asteria, firm-voiced mezzo soprano Emily Edmonds shrewdly balanced expressive intensity with beauty of sound.

- THE AUSTRALIAN

The story really belongs to the spirited and defiant women. Mezzo-soprano Emily Edmonds’ Asteria is heartbreaking in her efforts to kill Tamerlano and save her father.

- AUSSIE THEATRE

Edmonds is sublime as Asteria.

- AUSTRALIAN STAGE

Royal Opera House Covent Garden - Orpheus

Emily Edmonds, recently arrived from Australia on the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, plays the roles of Aglaea and Atropos, and - with her fine mezzo, and leggy, supermodel stage presence - is definitely one for the future.

- MAIL ON SUNDAY

Royal Opera House, Lyric Hammersmith - 4.48 Psychosis

The cast consists of six female singers. Each pulls with equal weight and delivers the raw text with selfless commitment.

- THE GUARDIAN

4.48 Psychosis opera is rawly powerful and laceratingly honest... All praise to the Chroma ensemble, and the totally committed cast

- THE TELEGRAPH

Royal Opera House - Manon Lescaut - Musician

Among smaller roles, Aled Hall as an exotic Dancing Master and Emily Edmonds as an erotic Musician both impress.
